Can anyone help me with my stereo question?

I own a Panasonic stereo system SA AK240, and it has been normal all until now. I turn it off, and a few seconds later, it somehow turns on by itself and starts showing words on the screen like "CD" and "tape" and it shows them in a specific order. And it keeps doing this until I actually turn the stereo on to listen to music. Did I break it? Is this normal? help!!
 
It seems like you've put it into a test mode or a standby mode. Unfortunately without knowing the system the only advice i can give is to check the manual if you have it.
