I've been trying to set up a server on my computer for Ventrilo. The server is functional, but neither I nor anyone else is capable of connecting to it via my external ip address. I can access my server by entering 127.0.0.1 (or "localhost") and by entering my router's gateway ip address (192.168.2.100), but if I enter my external ip address -- the same one shown when visiting "show-me-my-ip-address" websites and such, and the same address that others will need to enter into the client to access my server -- the Ventrilo client fails to find the server.
I have forwarded port 3784 to my router both as a TCP connection and a UDP connection, and I have forwarded port 6100 to my router as a UDP connection. I shut down Zone Alarm to see if it was blocking the ports or otherwise interfering, but the problem persisted.
My computer connects wirelessly to my Linksys router, with connects to my Westell Modem and thus, the internet. Any suggestions are welcome, but keep in mind that while I may sound comfortable around this type of thing, I have learned as I have gone, so do offer some explanation when suggesting any problem-solving steps in the event it is a concept or area of networking I am still unfamiliar with -- please, and thank-you. =)
