Can anyone give examples of when George W. Bush met substantially with Democrats...

...to discuss their differences? I'm not Bush-bashing at all. It just feels like Obama, like him or not, has made very visible efforts in the last couple of months to give the opposition a chance to voice their disapproval of him. I'm just trying to remember when Bush or any other President has done that.

i posted the 17 times he went up on capitol hill to discuss banking regulation. you know where barny frank and maxine waters told him "EVERYTHING WAS FINE". but i got reported more than twice for it and suspended my account

Obama has started talking to Republicans after one event: The Democrats lost Ted Kennedy's seat to a Republican and lost their super majority.

Before that, Obama could care less about Republicans, and Democrats in Congress cared even less.

Now they can't ram it through, they're going to act like they've been trying to play nice the whole time.

And people like you make their case for them.

And Obama knows full well how the Republicans stand on health care. He is just unwilling to compromise AT ALL. And then people like you complain about Republicans being the party of No.

I like what Obama is doing. I think having the cameras in the room made a very partisan congress more civil and I am sure that summit is going to make a difference. Health care reform is very complicated and covers a lot of areas. Opening that summit to the public will teach the public what the problems are and where the differences lay. It also gave Obama an audience when opposition fell to talking points rather than substance. He had to remind McCain a couple of times that the election is over and so is the campaign. Get on topic. This should be done more often.

As for George W. Bush, he wouldn't of been able to run such a meeting simply because he wouldn't have been as informed on the issue as Obama. You can tell Obama has his sleeves rolled up and is involved with the legislation.
