Can anaphalatic shock occur slowly if moderate-severe allergy symtoms aren't treated?

All of a sudden, my clothes are giving me hives, it's maddening! I thought it was fabric softener because i did some tests and washed my clothes wihout it and the hives weren't as bad, but still there. THen i got a little reaction while handling some dusty folders at my work. I tested positive for dustmites but why all of a sudden am i having these pretty moderate to severe reactions? i've gone my whole life being allergic to dust mites (i assume) and always just had a runny nose and a lot of sinus infections and that's it. i'm 29 year old female by the way.

now my whole body itches, my eyes itch (very intensely, can't stop rubbing them) the inside of my ears are a little itchy and sometimes i feel warm when all of this is happening and have bouts of shortness of breath.

i read about anaphalatic shock, but doesn't that occur very rapidly and i'd basically know it if i was havig that right? or can it creep up on you?

also, i have a dog but he has never seemed to bother me allergy wise. he lays around on my clothes a lot. could i have JUST developed an allergy to him after having him for 9 years? i've also found a couple of those clothes moths in my drawers before. could it be them??? i'm desperate to get answers. going to the doc soon.

thanks for any help.

Anaphalactic shock usually comes on quickly and affects your ability to breathe due to the severity of the allergic reaction.

You can have allergies get worse over time. I'm not sure why or what causes it. I know that I developed allergies as an adult and have gradually gotten worse over the years. I keep finding new allergies that weren't there before.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend finding an allergies to get re-tested. For environmental allergies, the skin testing is typically most sensitive. For food allergies, it is typically blood testing.

What are you doing to treat your allergies? Are you on a daily anti-histamine?

nothing. i'm really sensitive to OTC drugs and will avoid taking them at all costs. benedryl puts me in a coma for more than 24 hours. and the day time stuff gives me the shakes and loss of appetite which i hate.

ive never done anything for my sinus allergies. the only thing i've taken and it helped a little was a veramyst nasal steroid spray.

no way i can go to the allergist right now, i got a bill from the first testing and it was $700 F'n dollars. ridiculous. who can afford that.

my veramyst is close to a hundred which is ridiculous too. i'm currently waiting for my health insurance agent to call me back and set up a meeting to go over my options of changing plans according to my problems.

we'll see thanks for the reply.

oh yea and im scared to take the benedryl at night because i'm taking lunesta. that's anohter random thing that started happening a couple of weeks ago. some sort of weird sleep apnea. i keep getting jolted upon entering rem sleep. lot of lirab jerks too all the time. it's like i stop breathing in my sleep and my body jerks me awake. that's what it feels like. but of course my doctor dismissed it as "stress" and sent me on my way with lunesta .

It is not likely that you are building up to anaphylatic shock. Hives, sure, but anaphylaxis from environmental allergies like dust is extremely rare.

It does, however, sound like you are dealing with some significant unpleasantness. I frequently get all-over itchiness, especially my nose, ears and face.

About the clothes/hives things, abandon all fabric softener, stain treatment and bleach and use only detergents labeled "Free and Clear." I prefer Arm and Hammer brand, but there are many good ones out there. Use the "extra rinse" if it's an option on your machine. I had a dreadful reaction to laundry detergent once, and I've been very careful ever since.

Also, if your allergies are dust mite related, washing your bedding in hot water every week may help. Use hot water on all the clothes which won't be damaged by it.

Are you taking any antihistamines? If not, you should consider it, they are the #1 treatment for itchiness! Many people find Zyrtec is great for hives. Benadryl makes many people drowsy, but even just taking it at night can calm the allergies down a lot. Sudafed is a decongestant, not an antihistamine and will not treat itching.

Make a note of when you feel particularly bad and where you are/what's going on. See what the doctor says when you go in.

That doesn't sound like sleep apnea. Myclonic jerk, more like. It's sometimes disturbing but usually harmless. Among people with the tendency to get them, it does happen more often when under stress or very tired.

Which daytime antihistamines have you tried? Maybe Zyrtec or Claritin without the "D"?

none:( i HATE pills. i'm a total natural remedy type of person and i hate pharmaceuticals unless i'm dying.

i have tried zyrtec and benedryl but like i said, i'm nervous to mix the lunesta with benedryl as they both depress the central nervous system.

i cannot sleep without the lunesta lately, otherwise i am jolted awake every 15-20 minutes throughout the entire night and will never reach deep sleep. it causes panic and i get to the point where i'd rather just stay awake. i've never had problems sleeping and used to smoke pot at night. i've quit cold turkey 2 months now and now i get this horrible nighttime crap going on.

i just get really worried about mixing too many medicines that's how people accidently overdose and i feel it's a big problem in society. people with problems are taking like 3 or more pills for different things and it's like your body is filled with toxins.

i'll feel better when i rule serious heart/circulation problems out at the cardiologist this wednesday. if he gives me a clean bill of health with my heart, then i'll start taking daytime claritin or something.

thanks for the support:) i'm going shopping for new detergent first thing in the morning for that arm and hammer stuff.

also, my washing machine is REALLY mucky and old. i'm sensitive to mold and mildew...could that be it? ?
