I'm looking for a cheap and easy way to keep an eye on some of my outdoor animals and the best way to do this seems to be with an IP camera. The only two features I really need are to be able to have a live feed on my computer of their pens/enclosures as well as the ability to record the area(s) over a period of time and then play it back later. The problem is that they're outdoors with no nearby windows that I could put a webcam behind; the camera would have to be outdoors and exposed to the elements in order to get the views I need. I've found good looking IP cameras for under $150 but they're all indoors only...the outdoor ones are in the $400+ range, which is more than I want to spend for this. So if I were to buy a simple indoor IP camera (like the Asante Voyager I, for instance) and put it in some sort of weatherproof enclosure outdoors would I be able to get it to work successfully?
I'm totally new to this and couldn't find any info on the subject but my concern is that the indoor cameras can only be used indoors, whether they're in an enclosure or not, due to wireless range (too far away from the router/trees etc in the way) or some other unforeseen issue, so I'd like to know for sure whether or not this idea will work before buying any cameras.
