Can American (Hollywood) movies be made from foreign books?

Im from Australia and I'm writing a novel and if I get it published I could really see it as a movie (even though it probably wouldn't get made into one) Can a hollywood movie be made of an Australian book? I only ask because no offence to my peeps but most of the movies we make are shithouse, almost all American movies are good, and most of the good actors come from America. Its set in Australia.

Harry Potter was from an English writer in England and was set in England....it even had English actors
yet those movies are freakin huge here
