Can all these symptoms be related in some way?

It may have passed through the GI tract to quickly or it simply isn't digesting properly - hence the green pieces from something you ate. Yellow is more serious, it can mean a bile problem which could either be gallbladder related or liver/ pancreas related, the result from a intestinal bacteria infection or parasites, and people with GERD can get it. In other words, you need more testing - including thorough testing of a stool sample just in case.

It's not normal to have blood in your stool. If it was enough to make you go to the ER you shouldn't ignore it now just because it's not happening at the moment. You risk becoming sicker.
And sodium is very important. As an electrolyte if you have levels that are too high or too low it can affect heart rate and rhythm. It also helps your kidneys know to retain water, without proper sodium levels you risk losing too much fluids and flushing other electrolytes, minerals, and vitamins out.

I've had my gall bladder tested last year and it was fine. And my liver function is normal. I'm going to start doing a stool sample kit Saturday...it said you have to avoid red meat for 3 days before you start it and then take samples from 3 different days. So I'm going to do that and it should be able to figure out what it is, I hope. They have taken samples with the rectal exam but I don't know if they just tested for blood or if they did further testing with that. I know both times, it showed blood though. I do have GERD, so that may be the cause.

The fact that the blood was "dark red" and not bright red indicates it was from your stomache. It sounds like it would be too much blood to be coming from GERD and you probably would have vomited it up. To me it sounds like you have a stomache ulcer - with the stomache pain, GERD, and the dark red blood with blood clots. If I were you I'd have that investigated.

I have been having a lot of health issues lately.

It started out with protein in my urine...which the nephrologist put off as due to my weight and "high blood pressure" which it was only 130/86. Then they found blood in my urine but no infection and the urologist did a CT scan and said nothing was wrong and that the samples must be contaminated. I've been having bladder spasms so she put me on Vesicare which hasn't helped much.

I've been having pretty bad stomach pain on and off for years but my doctor just said it's indigestion and acid reflux...gave me pills which didn't work...but never did any tests.

Then Monday night, I go to the bathroom and pass large amounts of dark red blood with black clots in it from my bowels. I freak and a few hours later I go to the ER. They give me an IV and it seems to have stopped the bleeding, for now at least. My white blood count was up and sodium levels were low but I wasn't even slightly anemic. They wanted to admit me but I really don't like hospitals and since I was pretty stable, they let me go home with a promise to follow up with my doctor for more testing.

Today at my follow up appointment, my bp was 120/74 and pulse 100. (it's always around 100...has been since I was a pre-teen.) The doctor I saw today did another rectal exam which showed some blood still. She's giving me a referral to gastroenterology and I have to take some stool samples.

Could this all be related in some way? I have this feeling that something serious is wrong and the doctors aren't seeing it. (I mean, besides the symptoms...something is causing them.) I have also been suffering from chronic pain, which my doctor just tells me to lose weight. I'm trying but it's hard...especially since the pain prevents me from exercising as much I used to. I don't eat a whole lot...my nutritionist keeps telling me to eat more. And I keep my sodium intake very low most days. (some days I will eat something higher in sodium like a can of soup or something.) I don't take NSAIDs b/c it's bad for my kidneys...so thats not the cause of the GI bleeding.

Anyone have any ideas if its connected?

Ok Pinkpixies,

By the sounds of your responses back to the many suggestion, all of which have told you in many different ways that what happened to you is not normal, in fact it could be a good indication that something is seriously wrong and you are choosing to ignore this problem. I am sure it is because you are scared of what they may find out. What they may find out is that this is something that can be easily treated if treated early. If not treated early, what ever it is can become very difficult to treat because it has been ignored.

Now stop acting like a man--I have great experience with this type of behavior because my husband has pulled this crap on me on three different occassions this year alone. On all three of these occassions, he could have had a very ugly outcome, however, when threatened with divorce and no visitation rights to his daughter, he got the message and finally went to the hospital. He spent 3 days for a Upper GI Bleed, 3 days for his Lower GI Bleed (this was because he did not followed doctors orders) and his latest big boy decision to ignore his symptoms, landed him in the hospital for 4 days because he had a heart attack (he is only 47).

Now I am not saying that your's is this serious, I am however saying that you should not take such concerning symptoms with a grain of salt.

Forget the stool test kit and please call the gastroenterologist's office first thing Monday morning and if something happens over the weekend and you begin to bleed like that again, than please go to the nearest ER and let them treat you correctly and for heaven sakes-if they want to admit you than LET THEM!!

Now, please be good to yourself, give out some good Halloween candy and rest this weekend.

The doctors said I didn't have to go back to the ER unless I see blood again. I am following up, but I have to wait for my doctors office to give me a referral to gastroenterology...I don't even know where it is. I have medicaid so I have to see whoever they tell me to see. I feel fine right now and have been taking the Prilosec twice a day as they told me to.

My one question would be why your doctor did not order an immediate colonoscopy. If you had let them admit you than you would most likely already have had this done. Tomorrow is Friday, have you heard from your doctor's office yet on your gastroentrologist appointment? If not, than pick up the phone and find out who they plan on referring you to and get the phone number and call yourself. Tell the person who answers the phone that you have an active GI Bleed and that you need to be seen ASAP, like within the next couple of days. Do not let this issue go without having the proper medical attention that it seriously warrented. When you do see this doctor insisted on an urgent colonoscopy, this is really the only good test that will diagnose any serious bowel problems.

Keep us informed on the outcome.

Pinkpixies

Please call your doctors office first thing Monday morning and tell them that you still have not heard back from them concerning your referral.

I don't know if they're considered "disesases" but I have hypothyrodism, asthma, proteinuria, high blood pressure on and off, IBS, GERD, fibroids in my uterus, bladder spasms, frequent infections (vaginal, bladder/kidney, follicultius) and I'm morbidly obse (around 290 lbs) plus mental health issues.

All the more reason to see the gastroentrologist as soon as possible. You are not suppose to be bleeding into your stomach. That is still considered internal bleeding. I am sure that the ER doctor told you this because he would not try to admit you if he did not think that this was something that needed to be dealt with swifly.

Please do not wait, get the appointment within the next couple of days.

I just had my first BM since the Monday night with the blood...and there was no blood that I saw but the feces was very pale yellow with green pieces in it. LOL totally gross, sorry. I don't know what it means though.
