In my 2004 BMW, the little exclamation point warning light on the dash is on and the car has significantly less power ever since it lit up. A mechanic told me that the car's computer is fried from the aftermarket stereo I have installed. It is pretty powerful, but I don't know if it could actually ruin the computer and I've had it in there for over a year without any problem until now.
