Can a viral cold turn into a bacteria infection?

I have been feeling drained for 2 weeks. I went to the doctor, he told me that I had a viral cold. Today feels worse. My head hurts when I cough and I have really bad sinus pressure that makes me want to cry.

I have had sinus infections before, but I feel if I let this go to long than it will turn into something. Maybe not a sinus infection but something else just dont know what.

exactly! When your sinuses get inflamed from the virus, it can lead to bacteria getting trapped which then leads to a sinus infection. If it's been that long, definitely double check with your doctor.

I will have to find a new doctor to get a recheck. The doctor I have now, just thinks its a viral infection. I guess I will have to wait and see, if it turns into anything else.

So far I dont have any yellowish or green getting coughed up or in my nose. My doctor told me that it cant turn into a bacteria infection. Wat would be good for me to take so I can get rid of the cough and sleep at night? Thnxs for the help.

If there is no bacterial infection at the moment, then his diagnosis is correct. They won't treat you with antibiotics unless you have an active infection. There are some nasty viruses going around this winter and it could be that it's just taking a long time to get out of your system. Hope you feel better!

Sorry but your doctor is wrong. This has happened to me and my children many times. We start out with a cold with congestion and from the congestion lingering too long, it gets infected. I've had MANY sinus infections after having a cold. They are bacterial. The same thing with my kids ear infections.

Maybe the virus doesn't turn into a bacterial but it can lead to one.

Thanks for your help. This morning I woke up with a hungover head, but I didnt drink last night so I dont know what that is about. Hopefully I will start feeling better soon.

While a virus can't actually turn into a bacteria, the virus certainly can weaken you and leave you vulnerable to a secondary bacterial infection. Give it a few days to see if it clears up, then go back to the Dr if it doesn't so s/he can reevaluate.

Spicy food and steamy showers can help clear you sinuses to make you feel better in the mean time.
