reactivated by A new owner? I'm thinking of buying this phone used on ebay or craigslist, New they cost about $250 + tax. on ebay & craigslist i've seen them going as low as $140, So I guess what i'm asking is:

1. if I buy this phone off one of these sites, Would I run into any problems reactivating it with Boost Mobile? If no, how is this achieved/what's the process?

2. Will I be given the chance to register the phone, as I would if it was new? or will the phone be forever linked to the previous owner? thanks!

You should be able to do this. You might want to call Boost in advance to to be sure, but they should be able to activate the phone for you, and they should even be able to transfer an existing number to the new phone for you. Once they clear the ESN and program it for your account, all traces of the previous owner are gone. In fact, on CDMA phones, once the number is transferred to a new device, the old phone must be reactivated.

My only concern (and this would be for a Craigslist transaction more than eBay) is that there's a possibility that the phone may be stolen. If that's the case, then the ESN on the device was probably reported to the carrier by the owner, and the phone won't be clear...in fact, if you bring such a phone to them, they will likely confiscate it as stolen.

This would be an issue on CL with a cash transaction from some guy who wants to meet you in a bar to do the transaction. In that case, you have no recourse. If you're certain the seller is honest (has a legit business), then it's less of an issue.

With ebay, at least you're protected, especially if you use PayPal to finalize the transaction, which I strongly recommend.
