Can a t-mobile G2 unlocked be used with prepaid sim card?

I'm getting a G2 and I'm gonna unlock the phone but I'm just wondering if when unlocked can it be used with a prepaid sim card..and how does the pre pad simcard work?...is it connected to your credit card?
