I am just getting started. Through my research, I have found all the top clubs. All the ones that people say are fast road racers (for cat 3,4-5). They are all on 1,500.00+ bikes. I ask them their miles for the day, and we are about the same. I am on a 500.00 Schwinn road bike with a few upgrades. We will say the bike is worth 700. How is it I am keeping up with them and even out pedaling them?
From what you guys say, I shouldn't be able to hold my own.To me it just shows that the cost is a small factor that only applies when the rider can hold his/her own. It seems as if the downtown riders now this and build up a good bike, and the suburban riders just through cash at it.
Let's say we put Lance on a 300.00 dollar bike, and we give a weekend warrior a top of the line bike. Who should come out on top of this race? a 50 mile race...
I think it's all about the components and if they are the same than it's the rider's ability. I can't wait to get better.
