Can a person be a fan of football (or any sport) without having a favorite team?

Can one simply be a 'Fan of the Sport' without being labled a "Bandwagon Fan"?
In your opinion, do you need to establish a FAVORITE team (that did not just win a championship in recent years) in order NOT to be labeled a bandwagon fan.
What is YOUR "Criteria"
Would you consider some Sports Analysts "Bandwagoners" if they are UNBIASED?
I'm set in my opinion on this already, but since this word gets thrown around so much in this section, I'd like to know what you think
Silver Scooter: okay, i'll take that
Tim: Ive been a Steelers fan since I was old enough to play(1978) and I live in Cali.
Mrs Rivers: There you go!
CDUB:I think you're probably right
Ryan: good point
ballwth: LOL Yea, we all want to cheer for a team like that
rudigher: Superbowls are very easy to watch (regardless of the team)
Elizabeth: I agree, I love cheering for my team(win or lose) Its really gratifying to see them win (though I appreciate the game in general)
Much of bandwagoners have much to do with a teams "Hype"

Absolutely. I love college basketball but I don't have a favorite team. I just enjoy the sport. That in no way makes you a bandwagon fan. To me, a bandwagon fan is someone who switches teams and roots for the one who is winning simply because they are doing well.

There is nothing wrong with just liking a sport and not having a favorite team. However, it is more fun to have a favorite team. It makes it more enjoyable when you have a team you can root for.

well i label a bandwagoner as someone who switches over from a losing team, to a team that is winning. Everyone has to start somewhere with a team, and going with one thats winning is fine, as long as you stick with them through everything

Yes, but most people have a favorite team, and if your team doesn't make the superbowl, you can still have a team that you really want to win. Some people always want the underdog to win.

yes..I personally luv football..but at the same time i dont have a favorite team...

I have lived in Oklahoma my entire life. My favorite football team is the OU Sooners. I am not a huge Dallas Cowboy fan like most here. I was taught to hate things from Texas at an early age. I enjoy the NFL, though. I don't have a favorite NFL team any more. I used to follow the Lions but their front office incompetence made it impossible to cheer. Now when I watch the NFL I am a flavor of the month fan. Give me a team that is physical and takes no prisoners. Give me the Steelers of the 70's and today; the Forty Niners of the eighties. I even liked the Cowboys of the 90's, Give me a team with an attitude. The Raider offensively philosophy for a long time was "We take what we want!". That kind of attitude is easy to follow.

Having a favorite team is like having a favorite color. Everyone has one, it's not possible to not have a favorite color, or a team that you like better than the others.

People will always label other people as Bandwagon hoppers because that's what people do, If you dont have history of living in the NE and you like the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox, or Bruins and they start doing good i'm going to label you a Bandwagoneer.

Yes you can, I have always liked the Ohio State Buckeyes, im from ohio, i was never a band wagoner, they used to suck bad, and they come back. You can like a sport no matter what, you can have a Favorite player or coach or just cause they have cool jerseys WHO CARES! If you like baseball basketball football golf hockey whatever you don't have to have a favorite team or anything you can just like it because you do.
