Can a medium sized dog live outdoors?

Our family may be getting a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever to keep our other dog company. But our other dog lives outdoors. Can the breed that we want survive outside?

I once lived in a country where dogs are living outdoor 90% of the time and being fed only on dinner scraps and bones and still survive for more than 5 years. So if these dogs can survive that, I think it is fine to let your dogs to live outdoor.

Also do not mind ignorant wrecks that will be thumbing down now my answer, they just wanna be wise and let dogs live indoor and have flees all over their body. Dogs are perfectly capable for living outdoor just make sure to feed/treat them well.

Yes of course! Dogs in the wild don't live indoors do they? haha
A dog would be better of outside, it means they can run around freely with out ppl having to worry about it breaking things or knocking stuff over
I have a small dog (maltese shih tzu) who's and outside dog with our red/blue cattle dog.
Just make sure you go out and give it attention and play with them
(:

All dogs technically can live outside. You can't go around comparing dogs to your children, that's a silly way of making people understand what is wrong and right. It really depends on the personality of the dog and what you mean by "survive outside".
I know many people who's dogs, small and large sleep outside, and they're very very happy dogs. If you have two dogs living together, he should definitely be fine outside assuming you have the right environment for him. Shelter, food, fencing etc etc.

However i hope you do plan on bringing him inside everyday too, say in the evenings and times when you are at home. Dogs want to be with you! They don't want to be separated.
