My friend is going through a divorce that her ex husband is stalling as much as possible b/c he owes her lot of money. She had been married to a dead beat for 10 years and paid for most of the costs of running the house and made house payments for most of the time. She filed for divorce in sept of 2007 but she still made all the payments on the house that was vacated and put up for sale till Dec of 2008 b/c she didn't want the house to be foreclosed upon. Today she finally got a date in court and was hoping for it to be the last day in court. The judge told her to give half of her 401k as of TODAY and told her that her ex husband does not owe her for any payments made by her after she filed for divorce in sept 2007 on the house that was owned jointly. Is this messed up or am I missing something here?
My friend is distraught and inconsolable for not only loosing so much money but also at the unfairness of the whole judgment.

Can this decision be overturned?

Is there a non-profit group that provides free of cheaper counseling in or near Everett, Washington?

Can anyone suggest a way out?

Can one call the judge and ask them about how they reached the decision?

I understand that some of us reading this might have been burnt by their spouses in divorces but I kindly ask everyone to keep it civil and restrict the answers to what's asked or if they have good suggestions then please do share. I have read some responses by people to the questions by people frustrated by divorces and it was amazing how some people can be so insensitive. I appreciate your reading this and taking time to answer it. Thanks and take care.
