I originally went to court because I violated the following law: CRIMINAL MISCHIEF –DAMAGE TO TANGIBLE PROPERTY BY
RECKLESS OR NEGLIGENT USE OF FIRE, EXPLOSIVES, ETC.
N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3a(1) in new jersey. I had flipped a table upside down outside of a restaurant and this is the charge I was given. I only used my hands to place the table up side down(which if you read the pdf file containing the law[found by entering the law in on yahoo] says that the 4th element to the crime is that the person needed to have used dangerous means such as fireworks or explosives to destroy the property). The police said I damaged the umbrella but the judge said I didn't break anything on it In court the judge asked me about the table and read the reviews and saw that there was basically no point for me to be there and then asked if I could pass a drug test. I admitted to smoking pot less than a month ago and she sentenced me to complete a drug rehabilitation program (the kind coke heads would go to). Can they do this? I showed up to court to have my table problem resolved. This had nothing to do with drugs. I feel really confused because it seems like now they're bringing in a different a charge in its self. When dose flipping a table result in drug rehab? I am a minor too, if that helps any. and I am not a drug addict. I just like smoking pot every now and then.
