can a gynecologist/doctor tell if a woman has given birth in the past?

Like, I know someone who said they had a pap smear, and how they described it, the nature of it was odd.
There's rumors going around that she's had a kid in the past and etc. etc., and apparently the gynecologist kept questioning her if she's been pregnant or given birth or whatever,
then strongly urged her to get on birth control.
Which is bizarre, since I'm sexually active, wasn't urged to take it...I only got questioned on stuff when I started depo provera (doctors require women who take depo and don't have periods to take a pregnancy test, since it's harder to tell if she's pregnant, and the birth control lasts 3 months and supposedly is teratogenic they say) due to risks, and otherwise I've never been asked if I've given birth, and told I really should go on birth control etc. etc.
though I've had more than one doctor. And supposedly she was already on some hormone supplement, and I'm guessing they though she's pregnant or has been before, and did blood labwork (pregnancy?) and told her to hold off on the hormones for the ovary cysts for roughly a week.
I thought it's super weird since I always thought the rumors were fake, she's never been sexually active, blah blah blah.
So I'm wondering if all that's normal, and can gynecologists/any doctor who does pelvic exams, have the ability if they're a knowledgeable and experienced doctor to tell if a woman is sexually active, or more along the lines in this question, can they tell if a woman's carried a pregnancy to term and had a vaginal birth or other traditional delivery?
I know pregnancies carried to term and natural deliveries change the vaginal tone and muscle structure in the pelvis, so I'm guessing maybe they can notice, anyone know?
Just curious since the rumors, and who they think the kid's dad is or who the kid is (she's young though, but based on her mid section wouldn't surprise me if she pushed a child out while in highschool, since her gut and boobs changed quite a bit since her last year of highschool)
