Can a family lose financial aid?

Say there are two kids in the family and they are both in college. The older kid is a junior at a pretty average costing university and the younger kid is a freshman at a private tech school which is a lot more money. The older kid has had poor grades all through college and then finally messed up big and failed all her classes 2nd semester of junior year while the freshman has about a 2.5 after her first year.

Would this whole family lose financial aid? Can one kids grades influence whether the whole family gets aid?
