Can a cup purchased at Wal-mart help save the environment?

We have a free soda fountain for employees at my job; we also have a supply of Styrofoam cups, and plastic lids and straws. I could not stand the thought of the all the cups I was burning though in a day and the waste I was creating. I purchased a reusable plastic cup from Wal-Mart. Am I sacrificing the welfare of someone in a third world plastic factory in my attempt to help save the environment by purchasing a cup from a company with such poor labor practices?

Do you think the Chinese person's life would be better if he/she didn't have a job making plastic cups?
