charge over the contract? I signed a roof and siding contract with a contractor. When they started with the job, I mentioned to them that I am considering upgrading my windows when I have more funds. They tried to convince us that the time is now to upgrade our windows cause we're changing the siding and that they will give us a good deal. We agreed with the price. I noticed that they started touching the windows when they did the siding without giving us a contract on the windows. When I got the bill the total is about 3 thousand higher than the total amount they told us for the roof, siding and windows. They said the first contract is not valid anymore as I added the windows and that the siding and windows price went up. I agreed to pay the windows but insisted that the contract for roof and siding should stand. They didn't inform us of the price increase before they touched the house. I am contacting a lawyer to know what is binding and what is not. My worry is, can they put a mechanics' lean on my house even if the lawyer figures out the "correct" bill for us? I need answers soon. Should I tell our county first what happened before our contractors get to them? Thanks for any advise you can give me.
