can a chevy 350 be bored out to a 383? ?

so that is 33 cu. in. divided by 8 cylinders which equals.... just above 4 inches per cylinder.... but isnt a cylinder circular? oh i dont know anything about engines really... please help describe the process of boring out an engine and if it is even possible to bore the 350 to a 383 and the difference in hp and ft. lbs. of torque between the 350 and the 350 bored out to 383. thanks in advance
 
No, you can stroke a 350 to 383ci but not bore it. That's why you always see engines called 383 strokers in hot rods and muscle cars.

But it is very common to bore a 350 to 355ci. This is done to either to clean out the combustion chambers or to gain some extra cubic inches, or both.

A 383 stroker is made by putting a 400 small block crank in a 350. This is a very popular modification in the performance car crowd because these engines make lots of low end torque and horsepower. A healthy 350 small block might make 380lb ft of torque, but a 383 stroker could easily churn out 450lb ft of torque with no problem.
