Has anyone else downloaded "Basics of English Studies, an Introductory course for students of literary studies in English" by Lethbridge and Mildorf? The poetry section is only 35 pages long. It has been a revelation. With my work schedule and the rest of life, I've been able to read a few pages at night. I never studied poetry and this has opened my eyes. I liken it to walking into a kitchen to bake a cake...you are confronted with good and wholesome ingredients, but if you don't know the basics of baking your chances of getting a really good cake are slim to none. Hope you download it, you'll be amazed at what you didn't know...like how you can compare Rap to the Old English of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales!
Knowing the basics may make our hearts speak stronger and shine brighter. I hope you'll look at it!

So, Betty Crocker...does this mean that consistency of the batter will never vary now? lol I will take a look. Thanks for the info

I have just downloaded it and printed it off. (Thanks GJ mwah!)so I can't comment in such early days, but I look forward to learning much.

After reading this....I went to investigage and found the above....signed up (it's free) and printed off the pages....after only a quick glance I can see what a brilliant source of help it will be for me.

Thank you so much for this....and for showing me where I can get other documents etc. from
(only had Stephen Fry's The Ode Less Travelled' as my bible and, of course loads and loads of poetry books.

Definitely! But it depends on what style of poetry it is. Honestly, I think anyone can write rap lyrics, no matter how crappy it is.

Even when baking a cake goes wrong [ like mine.]
I Have still put my Heart into it.
Surely the Loving Ingredients, out weigh the Professionalism.

Knowing the basics of poetry doesn't make one a prominent poet, but great poets surely have full knowledge of those basics.
