can a blu ray player hook up to a normal tv,?

do they hook up by scart or are they different fitting i'm planning on getting a HD tv but not yet i was going to get a blu ray first and want to use it on my normal tv, i no there wont be any better picture or sound just want to no.
 
My blu ray player has an S-Video connection. Though I don't know WHY anyone would want to use S-video to connect it to an old standard def TV nor do I know how common it is.

So if the blu ray and the TV has the same type of video connection, then your old TV will be able to hook up and play them and the other guys answer is wrong.
 
No, it was my impression that blu-ray output was 1080P, how would that work on a standard TV? Although Maybe your blu-ray player has some kinda of trick to counter this...I dunno.
