My dad gave me his Ford Explorer and told me I could have it but, it has some "bumps and bruises". I have no experience with cars what so ever but I'm a fast learner and I feel that I could be able to fix it up if I had step by step instructions. Can someone recommend a manual(s) for me?

Get a Haynes or Chilton's manual specific for that car. Don't start out with an engine rebuild, but maybe start out doing the general maintenance. Do things like change the oil, and oil filter. As you build up knowledge then you can start doing more difficult tasks.

Your never going to learn untill you start. If your lucky enough you can get a manual from a library or from a spare parts shop don't get from a dealer there too expensive

Go to alldata.com and purchase a subscription for this particular vehicle, its inexpensive and well worth it.....

Yes,you have to start somewhere,i started working on cars when i was eleven.....im 52 now.
wish i would have had access to the information thats available today.
i'm self taught.....

yea if you dont know what your doing when it comes to that kinda stuff its best to leave to the pros. Ive taken lots of engines and what not apart only to realize i had absolutely no idea what i was doing and the manuals really dont help much, ive never tried a car specific one so that was probably my problem but anyhoo
