Can a 14 year old go backpacking in a National Park alone?

I am 14 years old and live in a house outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I mess around in the woods all the time and have backpacking experience. My parents are OK with me camping alone but I was wondering if there are any laws or rules about an age limit. I have to file for a permit, too.
