Camping with eight month old questions?

Hi !
We are going camping this week-end with my eight-month old daughter for the first time.

I have two questions; first off, what do I bring for her to sleep on ? We use an inflatable matress, I don't want her on that because I'm afraid she'll choke. Our pack-n-play is too tall, it touches the side of the tent when it's beside the mattress. I'm thinking maybe I'll bring the little curved matress from our change table ???

Also, what to do with diapers ???? (Dirty ones LOL) I don't want to just have them out there in a bag or something, I'm afraid they'll attract animals. But a diaper genie is too big and awkward to bring....

Any other personal experiences/tips on camping with a baby will be appreciated !!!
I know about the communal bins LOL

However, hopefully, we won't be camping right beside one ! I meant what to do with the diapers on our campsite, until we bring them to the bin !!!
 
use zip lock bags for the diapers....and I would just make her a little pallet out of blankets right next to your mattress....
 
we just came back from camping a couple days ago. we use the gdiapers, the liners are biodegradable so we dug a hole for bathroom use and tossed them in there. i'm not sure what we would have done if we used disposables, we were 20 minutes into a national forest and didn't see anyone for 4 days. was really nice. not sure how big of tent you have, but maybe the crib mattress? otherwise i would just make a bed of blankets. we used the flat, one person mattresses tied together, he slept between us so he wouldn't get cold. we also brought the pack and play and swing. he took his daily naps in the swing and would play either in the pack and play or the tent. he seemed to really like the whole camping thing.
 
We went camping for the first time when my baby was eight months old.
For the diapers I would just keep them in a garbage sack and buy some of the little sacks to tie the poopy ones up with. If you are camping in a camp site where there are lots of people they wont be too attracted to the smell. They would be more intrested in the meat anyways. I wouldn't suggest a really excluded woody area with a baby.

As for sleeping I would suggest having baby in bed with you, that is what I did, although we have a moter-home, but I would do the same thing if we had a tent. Just put everyone in nice warm PJs, Like sweats and nice warm footy PJs for baby, then put her in between mommy and daddy. You can get really big mattresses. But if you don't want to do that The I would say the changing pad is a good idea. Don't have baby too close to the sides of the tent, condensation builds up and it can become pretty moist. Do you have a moses basket? What about just bringing her crib mattress? Those are small and it can be put next to yours. But my suggestion would be co-sleeping, she might be really scared camping and want to be next to you anyways.

Her are some suggestions, bring a really thick blanket so you can put baby down and let them stretch out a bit, both you and baby will get tired of being held all the time. Also bring the pack n play, you can use it outside for naps and play. Bring your baby sling/carrier so you can go on walks, those stroller wheels don't work so great. Becareful with some bug sprays, because babies can be sensitive to deet. Bring hand sanitizer and Sunblock.
 
I was actually going to ask a question about camping because we're going in October so my twins will have just turned 1.

Maybe you could get some pillows, line them all up, fill the gaps with rolled up blankets and cover them all in a blanket or two? Or, if you have time/money, buy a small travel bed. Also, make sure there is no way she can get/crawl out while you are sleeping.

Oh and with the dirty nappies, take plenty of bags, double them up and put them in a big black sack at the edge of your pitch (or as far away from your tent(s) as possible).

Just as a couple of extras: make sure she's not in the sun too much, she's covered in sunscreen and watch out for mosquitos and other insects that bite.
