I'm planning a camping trip in Mexico this summer and have a few questions.
- I hear carrying knives is illegal in mexico. Does this apply to camping too? If it's a swiss army type knife and it's carried in my camping pack (not in my pocket or easily accessible) is this illegal?
- Are there laws against/limiting back-country hiking and camping in Mexico? Or do these only apply to specific areas?
I'm going to likely be camping in Chihuahua, Baja, and Oaxaca. If the laws are different for different states/areas could you let me know?
I'm an extremely experience backpacker in Alaska who has backpacked and camped in every type of remote environment the US has to offer for weeks at a time, so please keep the "you don't know what you're getting yourself into" comments at a minimum please. Just looking to avoid spending five years in a mexican jail. Thanks!
