Camping in Cornwall - Can you pitch a tent anywhere?

me and my boyfriend want to go camping in a few weeks in Cornwall, preferebly somewhere close to The Lizard, or Kynance cove.
I was wondering if there are any rules about setting up your tent anywhere or whether it is absolutely neccesary to use a designated campsite.. thanks

It is up to the land owner if you are allowed to camp. You need to get permission.
Best of luck finding out who owns what land.

Otherwise it is best to assume you do not have the right to camp unless you have specific permission (i.e. a farmer)

On public land there would not be a problem with pitching your tent, other than Safety, people use campsites etc. for safety of being near other campers and the security of a campsite.
You would not want to be the only tent in the middle of nowhere and hearing strange noises at night would you.
Watch the film Eden Lake and you will understand what I mean, although its a bit extreme, I would definately say get on a designated campsite.
Also you might pong after a few days not having access to showers etc., most campsites have these facilities
