Campest Moments In Film Ever...

I think almost all of 'Can't Stop the Music' the movie that starred/showcased the Village People could seriously challenge any movie for the campest moments in film.

I remember liking the movie as a kid and then watched it again about a year back (for the first time in probably over 20 years) and was open jawed at how seriously camp it was. The scene where they sing YMCA is probably the campest thing ever, with them running through a gym with loaRAB of almost naked muscle men in skimmy shorts, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxrCMA3k6rc

Oh no no non!

Gay and Camp might go hand in hand but they are not one and the same.

Admittedly the Blazing Saddles clip is camp but some that are mentioned are not camp as such but touch on sexuality

Camp and sexuality are not the same thing

This is camp... it might not be that obvious to you but it's definitely camp

This is also camp personified

Noelle Gordon...'Meg' from CrossroaRAB.

I remember she had a very large gay following...and I witnessed this first hand when I saw her in a production of 'Call Me Madam' in London (originally done by Ethel Merman).

In truth, she was dreadful. But it didn't seem to matter to the largely gay audience...though largely is probably not the word to use, it was actually pretty sparse...an almost empty theatre in fact.

But not did not seem to matter to those that were there...to most she was their beloved 'Nolly'.

I guess it may not be an easy thing for a lot of people to understand, the difference betweem gay and camp. In this case, Noelle Gordon was deemed 'camp', and adopted by the gay community as a sort of icon.

I personally think it has to do with theatricality to a degree, with people who are not just theatrical but over-the-top, and in a lot of cases so over the top and just plain bad as to be entertaining.

Bad actors and ham actors will often exaggerate their speech patterns and mannerisms to detract from their deficiencies, and I think it is this exaggeration that often creates the camp factor. We know it's bad, but because of the conviction with which it is done, it raises bad to a whole new level...hence, camp.

Hey...it's 1 in the A.M, I have had a few, and that's my bullshit theory. Deal with it...
