Camera / geotag issues

I am having problems with geotagging my photos.

I have the GPS turned on good signal and ~8 satalities in view, the option in the camera settings 'Store location in pictures' is checked.

However, when I take picutres and download them to my PC (either via email or USB) the EXIF data shows both latitude and longditude as not applicable (n/a).

I am doing something wrong?

Anyone have any ideas?

As a side note it seems that when I choose to upload to picassa the photos - whilst not having any lat / long in EXIF - have the correct location on the included google map. Perhaps this is due to it logging IP addresses?

If it helps, I have a T-mobile (UK) G1 phone with firmware 1.5.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah I thought it was weird too. I started using the app, Itookthisonmyphone.com and it does tag the images with the information pulled from the camera. What I don't get is why that app works, but others do not seem to. Boggles my mind to be honest.

Heres proof that it does something, but Im not 100% sure if its the camera doing the tagging or the app. I did have to enable location in both the app and the camera for it to work, but so far I'm happy with that app, which I know doesn't answer your question 100% and is a little off topic.

thanks for your reply kizer, I got it working...

but it was an ugly solution! I wiped my phones memory and started from the beginning again :-( sorted the problem though now I can see the lat / long in the EXIF data...

perhaps it was an application interfering with it?

What are you using to view the EXIF data. I'm trying to view mine on a few photos I have and well its not listing location as one of the properties.

I am using a Firefox add-on called EXIF viewer -- drag-and-drop photos onto the browser and right-click to view EXIF data.

There are many free tools for viewing EXIF in most operating systems, quick google search will find you what you want ;-)

Why not try Easytagger which can record all the geography position info? As latitude, longitude, press altitude, barometric, heading and UTM time metadata…EasyTagger also track the route that you walk, plotting it along with the photos. This allows you to retrace your steps and share your photos in a more meaningful way. I am using it with my D300, it is perfect.
