Camera for a graphic arts class ?

'm in highschool and am taking a graphic arts/ photography class , my old camera broke so i need a new one , since my birthday is coming up my mom said she would get me one as long as it is a resonable price , so which camera is best for a graphic arts class .
there is actually a 300 dollar budget , i dont want to make a huge investment for something that i may not even be interested in , im just a freshman
