Yeah !!

Just tried Barablu?s software with my friend from Norway. It is working great! Earlier I had to sit by my computer to talk with my friends. But now I can talk with them anywhere as long as I have a wi-fi connection! Great or what? I was afraid that you would have to pay something, but you just have to pay if you are not calling over the internet. They actually route your call to your friend over the Internet whenever you are using barablu on a mobile, instead of through the more traditional mobile operator, or landline route. This is how you get to call for free !! So u guys should definitely try it too !!

I have wi-fi connection at school and at my student home, but does anyone know where I can find free wi-fi connections, when I am in the city? (I live in London)

You can frequent the local pubs! ...at least that's what I would do. Even if they dont have a free wifi connection after a few minutes you just wont care anymore.

hmm, from the site it seems like the call is free only if you call another barablu user. Otherwise, you get charged like 1cent/min for calls to landlines.

EDIT: Once you start the app, there's no way to exit it unless you reboot the phone. Sucks!

I love that fn site. I sat in my car one day and looked up all the hotspots in my area with my E61 and i was floored by how many free wifi spots there were. It's a pretty good site that seems to be updated fairly frequently.

Speaking of this VoIP ... I've been looking into this a bit and I don't get how it's supposed to be any better than calling on my regular phone plan. I've never used Skype so I guess I'm totally unfamiliar. Is there really any benefit from using this service? (maybe I should have started a new thread).

If you're going to be calling within your country, and if you have free minutes and coveragr everywhere, then voip isn't is for you. Something like skype helps me to keep in touch with relatives overseas (skype to skype calls are free). Since my office is in a basement (there is wi-fi but no gsm coverage), I can forward all calls to a skypeout number and make and receive calls over wi-fi.

Also - if you are ever traveling overseas, you will be able to call home (or anywhere else in the US) for a couple of pennies/minutes anywhere you can find a wifi hotspot.

Almost true.

You can hold the app switch button, then highlight BaraBlu, and press "C" to quit the app.
The only downer is that is drains the battery in a very big way

I'd like to try Fring.. except I don't have a Phone Number [because I'm not subscribed to any GSM provider currently] to give out for the SMS.. i.e. I have service thru VZW so I can't use the N73 or N80ie..

I wish there was another way to get this app installed on my N80.. oh well.. VoipCheap for now
