Got to tell you folks ....Rogers is the best!!!! I recently went to Turkey and Egypt on business. I made 7 stops in different parts of the 2 countries and each time I got off the plane and turned on my BB, I got a message saying welcome to .....(country), the network I wuld be using and the number to use for voice mail and cust. service. PLUS, the call reception was amazing and the e-mails were fast. Try that with Fido (which sucks big time) or Bell Canada which still can't figure out what GSM means!!!

Lewis I don't think we can compare the hiptop data plan to a bb data plan 'cause I don't think it use any push messaging or if it use any I can't think about that little freaky thing only heard bad things about that

Cowan is right. I signed-up with Rogers to get GSM. At the time I had a phone from my employer on the Aliant (Bell) 1X network. But got 2 tri-band GSM phones with Rogers for my wife and I.

We went to Greece and Turkey soon after. We landed in Athens, picked up our phones and called home. The couple standing next to us were tapping their cells saying "Your phones work here?" Needless-to-say, they were with Bell and disappointed to learn they had two paperweights with them for their vacation.

We're going to Portugal soon, and I plan to slap a pre-paid TMN sim card in my phone, then talk, TXT and email like normal.

Currently have an unlocked T-Mobile 7290 working on the Rogers network. Great device, but it does suffer from signal fade deep inside buildings. My old Ericsson T637 would never do that! Is there anything I can do to boost received signal strength?

Hi,
does anyone use Rogers Blackberry at UBC? Is the reception good on campus and in the lecture halls? I noticed my phone with Fido does not receive there. I am considering a switch to the Blackberry by Rogers.

Xdamini:

Two things:

#1 - with BlackBerry, if using just email/SMS messaging, then even a very weak signal is sufficient. Get into web surfing or voice calls, then you need a decent signal.

#2 - don't judge service area of Fido as the same as Rogers. Even though they're both GSM and the same parent company and phones will roam between both networks (well, Rogers will roam on Fido by default, but Fido will only roam Rogers if you pay the extra fee), the actual service areas can be slightly different.

I would suggest trying a Rogers phone for a while, or pay for the extended network with your current Fido phone.

Also, any Rogers dealer will have demo BlackBerries to try out (they typically charge ~$50 for a month to test it out).

Because of the cost and commitment to data, I strongly urge you to demo a BlackBerry before purchase to eliminate potential frustration or disappointment.

I was looking for a hardware upgrade from my nokia 6130i which I was using more for SMS than voice.
I chose Rogers a while back when I heard they were switching to GSM, once the network was active I moved away from FIDO

Rogers because of world wide coverage. Been with them for 8 years since I was 16.

7100T and 8700R... maybe going to grab the 7130 soon to replace the 7100. Love the faster processor.

I am in Toronot am using Rogers for GSM! Works everywhere I need it to. Have been a customer for about 5 years with NO plans to switch.
Had a few phones with them, but recently a 7100 which broke and now have a 7130, which is much faster.
Pearl would be a nice upgrade.

I was invited to a Rogers release party for the 8700r and when I left they gave me a free one. Decided I would give it a try and now this thing never leaves my side. I am truly addicted to my bb and the monthly price plan (now that I have moved my family inot a Rogers family plan) can't really be beat. Also I really really hate Telus and dealing with them.
