I have an iPhone 3Gs that was previously on AT&T. It worked fine, including the caller ID yet I was paying far too much.
I unlocked the phone and activated it on the T-Mobile network. Everything works good, except the Caller ID. Another persons name shows up when I call people. I have tested it by calling a Vonage land line and a Metro-PCS cell phone. Both times - wrong caller id name.
T-Mobile originally told me that the problem lays in the fact that there are different caller ID carriers that the various phone companies use. They told me that on the T-Mobile end, everything was set correctly. At that time I had only tested it on a Vonage land line, so the conclusion T-Mobile made was that it must be Vonage's problem.
Vonage doesn't seem to be able to find a problem on their end.
Following my discovery that this error occurs not only on Vonage, but on Metro-PCS as well - I called T-Mobile back. They filed the paperwork for a manual caller-id reprogramming which I was told takes 72 hours. It's been a week and the problem still hasn't been fixed.
I can't have a cell phone that appears as someone else's name when I'm calling people. It's a pain for my friends and is completely inappropriate for business calls.
