Call of Duty 4, XBOX 360, What is a clan and is it worth joining one?

Hi all, i have been playing said game for a couple of months now, been reading about clans, could someone tell me what they are, and if its worth joining one, how easy is it to join, and if (as i have seen in another link) what the "training/tests" are??. Iam a Leiutenant General II.
