Call-blocking software suggestions?

I am looking for software for my E73 that does call blocking. There is no shortage of this type of software; a fairly good list is at http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/cell-phones/call-manager-blocking-filter-symbian-s60-software-nokia-n95-others-181616.html. The problem is that I need a program that totally drops the call, so the only trace of that party ever having called in in either the program's log or the phone's call log.

With zero exceptions, every program I have tried so far that purports to "drop calls" or "play a busy signal" instead PUSHES THE CALL INTO MY VOICE MAIL. Every single program. And I do not want this. I question if I am misunderstanding what these programs are supposed to do, or if this is a technical issue with my E73 (or with T-Mobile USA). Any comments?

Might anyone be able to suggest a program that does what I want? For my purposes, call blocking software seems to fall into two categories, software that just "drops the call", and software that has an additional, built-in, on-phone answering machine. If the first category will never work, then I'd be happy with a program that can plan a fake "your call cannot be completed as dialed" message and then drops the call with no answering machine option. But I can't find a program like this, either. :(

Many thanks for any suggestions!

yea what you're asking isn't possible because for the program to work in the first place, the call has to go through and then it is filtered by the program on your phone. for something like totally dropping the call, the program would have to be on the carrier side that handles the connection before it even gets to your phone.

melon advanced blocker does the busy tone thing and black baller pro (not the regular one) has the ability to do the answering machine thing. i think it might be able to do a custom message or something like that. might want to check those out

Advance Call Manager will do the trick for you. The program will allow you to divert the number you wish to block to another number, fax number, or to your favorite company. You will never hear the phone ring. I have used this program for years on my N78, N79, 5800XM, and E71 with no problem whatsoever. Lots of spammers out there and they will only spam me once if they use the same number to call me

I wanted to follow up to say thanks for the replies, and to post my findings. I wasn't expecting the blocked calls to not touch my phone at all, just to not do anything that wastes my time. I still don't understand why every call blocking package advertises the ability to "drop calls" or "play a busy signal", because most people assume it's like spam blocking software that immediately deletes the message, with hardly a trace. But for every package I tested, this feature instead sends the call to voice mail. Voice mail can't be unique to T-Mobile (my carrier) or to North American carriers...so the mind boggles a little.

I went back and tested several call blocking packages with an "answering machine" feature and ONLY BlackBaller Pro fits my needs..and WORKS. First, it's the only package I found with the built-in ability to "Play a sound clip" without also recording a voice mail message. After a couple hours of web browsing, finding some fun telco error messages and tones, and splicing them together, I now have something that will hopefully keep this one particular automated system at bay. But in addition, changes in the Symbian API make BlackBaller the only package that currently works at all. Upon attempting to play a recording, every other package locks the phone so completely (and BB, too, if it's misconfigured) that I must remove the battery to recover. This E73 is a S60 3rdEd FP2 phone, and for this API I must change BB's playback method, which involves BB actually popping the Music Player app to the front. :( I don't like this, but Killer Mobile says it's the only solution, and I believe them.

There are two other unexpected side effects:

1) It's impossible to mute the microphone while sending audio over the telephone uplink. So while my recording is playing, it's possible for the remote caller to hear room noises mixed in. But other programs behave the same way, so I'm stuck with it. It seems that Nokia cut corners with the FP2 telephony driver??

2) These calls still activate the phone's "missed call" feature. I can live with this, but may ask Killer Mobile to look for a workaround.

So thanks once again for the replies, and I'm now off to track down more software.

Hey Thetao,

Gladd BlackBaller Pro does the trick for you. I think we also communicated with you via email about this. Regarding:

1) Yes, right now it's an API limitation, but before the next release we'll see if Nokia has an internal API they can give us (well, actually they charge us for these!)
2) This was oversight and something that can't be turned off. In the next update we'll make sure to make this optional, I can see how it could become annoying. We'll probably just group all of the automatic prompts into one setting so you can turn them all off with one setting to keep things simple.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Btw, it's not the apps that send busy signals to the voicemail it's the phone or the carrier perhaps? Anyway, you can turn that off in the phone's calls setting.
