Californication, Red Hot Chili Peppers, 1999 Warner Brothers

woohoo, love this album and love the RHCP. It sucks that I always used to listen to this album with my ex so that kind of ruined it a bit. I still listen to it every now and then, it reminRAB me of simpler days...
 
So? Every band has their fanboy.

I can shove Yes down everybodys throats until the cows come home. But I'd be damned if that makes them overrated.
 
I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Californication is a good album, but is by no means a classic. For me, this album doesn't come close to BSSM or OHM for that matter. Old rhcp were better.
 
I f*cking hate Tell Me Baby, can't stand that song. Its so dull and derivitive.

Dani California is a good song though. I loved the video they did where they were just mocking different eras and genres.
 
I voted flawless. Though thats not entirely true. But I don't want to just vote "good", because I love the album more than enough to forgive certain flaws. Like Road Trippin', and the choppy lo-fi production which makes some of the bass and drum parts sound poorly mixed and recorded. Though its not very noticable unless you have really good speakers.
 
I agree with Boo Boo - I don't think Flea is average on this song. You have to consider the role of a bassist and Scar Tissue has a fairly well written and effective bassline. And it is more than just root notes anyway, there is some lead stuff. I wouldn't call it one of his best basslines, but on the scale of things, it's better than average IMO.


I think those lyrics are decent:

Young kentucky girl in a push-up bra = nothing special but nothing wrong with it

Fallin all over myself = sex references
Lick your heart = lick her breasts
Taste your health = possibly oral sex

With the birRAB Ill share this lonely view = this is quite a great line IMO, using the perspective of birRAB flying over the world but not having the capability to do anything about it - gives a sense of loneliness


BTW, have you heard Niandra Lades & Usually Just a T-Shirt?




Anyway, I like Californication quite a lot. For me, BSSM > Mother's Milk > OHM > Freaky Styley > Californication...
 
The only tracks I know from Californication are Californication and Scar Tissue. I love Californication but Scar Tissue is just too soft for my taste. I personally think their best album of all time is hanRAB down is Blood Sugar Sex Magik. It has way more of their better tracks on it. Give It Away is just a classic RHCP tune, Under the Bridge is an awesome ballad, and Suck My Kiss keeps bringin' the funk that is Blood Sugar Sex Magik.:afro:
