I am looking to buy a car (private party) a day before the California sales tax increase takes into effect; I was wondering what the sales tax is based upon, the date I actually purchased the car? or, when I register it with the DMV?
The owner of the car does not actually have the title, but will be able to have it in a few days.
By 'back dating' the title and making it official on the day of the purchase, wouldn't this be a legal purchase as of 3/31?
