Cake

Like the Flamming Lips with less recognition, Cake has arrived as elder statesmen ten years plus into their career.

The melodies are certainly great, but the backing harmonies that the crowd constantly sing in concert make every song for me. Not to mention that as Trumpeters go (and granted I don't know many), Vincent DiFiori (I could have spelled that wrong) is absolutely dynamite.

The lyrics too tend to be bare-boned and minimal, getting to the point rather than writing something to make the literary world take notice. And you can tell where the influence came from, when they cover Willie Nelsons' "sad songs and waltzes", its hard to tell when that starts becoming a Cake song.

I honestly don't think they ever had the recognition they deserved and you can never guess as to why with these types of things but I guess we should just consider ourselves lucky to be in league with great music.

Cake....Hmmmmm. I have "Fashion Nugget" and "Comfort Eagle" floating around somewhere. Not bad, but I find you've got to be in the right mood for a listen.

Absolutly not. They've had tons of "hits" on the radio. Sheep go to Heaven, Never there, Short Skirt long Jacket.

Also SSLJ is off their 4th album, their new Album Pressure Cheif (which has No Phone) is not called SSLJ . (The 4th was called Comfort Eagle)

I don't know, I looked up one hit wonders and it has The Distance on the list but I really liked that song Short Skirt Long Jacket too.
