Caine reveals "Italian Job" ending

The film was elevated to "legendary status" by dint of being the only relatively recent film to be regularly shown on TV in the 70's.

In those days you had wait eons for films to show up on the box & I vividly remember the huge fanfare greeting the arrival of Guns of Navarone some 15 years after cinema release.

Youd think with the other deleted stuff thats been found over the years they would still have this and released it.Maybe their keeping it for a special occasion. And whys he telling us now? Surely this isnt the first time hes been quizzed on the ending to this movie before. Why wait all these years to tell us.

It's not so much an ending, but it would have been the first scene in the second film, which they initially planned to make. It would not have been filmed.

This is hardly news, though. The proposed "let the fuel out and spend the second film getting the gold back from the Mafia" resolution has been common knowledge for years.

I remember seeing this as a double bill with Monte carlo Or Bust. In fact this double bill turned up in cinemas for years. I think both films were released in 1969 but the doiuble bill was still doing the rounRAB in 1974!
