Cable/cradle issue

I got my T2 used, without a cradle or power cord. I bought a charger/hotsync cord for it online.
In the beginning, when I plugged it in, it charged it up, but in order to hotsync, I had to push the plug in and hold it there until it was done.
Now it won't charge or hotsync at all.
Can someone tell me, is it common for these cords to wear out? Would the normal power cord & cradle last longer?

Most importantly, is there a way to tell if the problem is with the cord or the T2 before I buy a new cord?

Much thanks,

I would imagine that if you have to hold the connection to make it work, you have a bad ontact. could be the cable, or it could be a dirty or corroded pin or land. I may be a simple matter of cleaning it. I am not familiar with the connector on the T2, but if it is like my TX I would suggest cleaning it with foam type cotton swab and alcohol (be careful not to saturate the surfaces, or leave any lint or bend pins). I have also used contact cleaner from Radio Shack. This cleaner also has a lubricant that help prevent corrosion and abrasive wear to the surface.

I had a similar problem with my TX, fresh out of the box. Couldn't do initial hotsync and connection was obviously fragile. Finially, after a couple of hours of futzing with it, I got it to work (once). Called Palm, got new cable, and problem was solved. Of course, now that I can do WIFI hotsyncs, the cable mostly stays in the drawer.
