C90 police edition

Wow, what a really NOT GOOD idea! This dealer wants $18,000 for a 2006 C90 he converted over to be a police bike? One with no warrantee on the electronics? To say he missed his goal of a "low cost" police bike would be an understatement.

A police department can get a brand new Harley Road King Police Edition, with full warrantee, a larger motor, and more features, for less. Harley offers great deals to police departments, where you buy the bike, use it for a 2-4 years, and they buy it back at a huge percentage of the original cost. This lowers the cost of the department using HDs to a bare minimum- they don't choose them because they are fast, they choose them because Harley makes it so cheap and easy to get them.

Apparently this was a test for some police in Ohio. Not sure how valid the story is. From what I understand the dealer selling this unit gives a new name to stealer.

A lot of it had to do with ego. Most motorcycle cops want Harleys because they are a Harley. Also, I can't speak for all, but a lot of departments lease the bikes rather than buy them. With the resale value of a Harley, it does help hold cost down.
