C50 Question. (aftermarket exhaust)

Has anyone played with trying to make there bike sound louder with out buying after market exhaust. I want to try to do something with the baffels to make it louder. I took off the pipes and looked for a way to remove it but it is welded and capped with no easy way to do it. Is there a particular place to drill into the end cap to ease the problem. Just curious, before I spend a bunch of money on new exhaust.

Can you explain the process... I'm not an idiot but I don't want to screw it up either. The video link would be good but I don't have a mac.
 
or, do what I did. (I have an 05 M50, same engine, and exhaust)
I marked my exhaust about 12 inches shorter, and whacked it off... then removed the baffleing... sounds bloody awsome, loud, and mean...
 
Not to negative here but.....
It may sound mean and loud but you eliminated some much needed back pressure, if you did a dyno before and after it would show that you have lost power.
 
as you ride down the street make vroom vroom sounds. works for me. at the stop signs people look over at me with the stangest looks.

They might be giving you strange looks but at least the cagers know you're there!
Loud pipes may not save lives, but loud vroom-vroom sounds do! :rolleyes:
 
as for loosing power... I really didnt notice any. It feels as though (i know that is a pretty subject way to view power but, it my *** dyno is pretty well tuned from years of racing all manner of vehicles. LOL), but it feels as though it gained some down low. I really dont ride my bike that hard so, its hard for me to say. As for much needed back pressure. We are talking about japaneese bikes here, not harleys... Foreign motors are built alot tighter, and more consistant. There is alot more engineering, and cad/cam design put into them. Back pressure is not really as much of an issue on foreign bikes. Also, after looking at the way the exhaust is designed, I dont really believe that the clamp on "mufflers" provide very much backpressure as it is...Just my opionion tho, I am most probably wrong.
 
I haven't debaffled mine, but search here in the forum under some of the other debaffling threads. More than one forum member has posted that their dealer has confirmed their is no effect on the warranty. I recommend you check with your dealer too.

Now, how it effects your ability to pass state inspection......well, that's another story.

Just would like to say Thank you to Lyd for doing the video. I just debaffled my pipes. What a difference!! Sounds Awesome. No effects of power loss. Once again thanks to all who share their knowledge, it makes being a newbie much easier and riding that much more enjoyable.
 
In order to change the sound of the C90, you will need to replace the entire exhaust. There is a "muffler" located just in front of the rear tire. From there, the exhaust is sent out of the pipes. The pipes are there pretty much for the sole purpose of letting the exhaust out.
 
I de-baffled mine about 2 weeks ago. Watch this video. It was very easy to do with the right tools. I love the way mine sounds, and I only had $30 in it for the tools. Make sure your drill is a good one, I almost burnt mine up. I looked for very chance during the holidays to ride and listen to the sound. Good luck!!!
