C109 Tapping noise

any of you guys get this tapping sound when on 4th and 5 gear under light to med load?
its driving me up a wall and dealer tells me Suzuki has heard about it and determined it will not cause problems but yet they don't know what is causing it.

I agree with you Ion, everybody says to use the search function, but it's not very good. It seems as though all the old pros are taking some time off. Good luck!

I just thought of something. What octane fuel are you using? Maybe the timing is a little advanced and it's a little predetonation (pinging). Try a higher octane and see if it helps. Maybe somebody could recommend a hotter or colder spark plug and see if that helps.

Ummmm...am I the only one that sees a problem here? If they don't know what is causing it, how can they possibly know that it will not cause problems?

Don't worry about it!! That is just the massive power impulses that the C109RT engine releases when the timing is advanced in those gears. Get the gizmo that fools the ecm into thinking that its in fourth gear all the time and you will unleash the beast in all 5 gears.:bluethum:
:cheers::cheers:

its not pinging its a tapping sound im using 93 octane fuel. and yes it is in advanced timing and have the JSD installed for advanced timing on 1-3. what i find weird is that this noise is only in advanced timing. if i remove the jsd the it only makes the noise in 4 and 5th gear. i know its a big engine but ive ridden 1800 and 1900 vtwins before and they dont make this type of noise. maybe is a valve or clutch? bike rides great and tons of power. but the tapping noise just drives me insane. i know i can cover it up with pipes but v&h has none yet and i will still know the noise is there!

just got a c109r and i notice a knocking noise in 4th and 5th also and in neutral with clutch out dealer told me its the primary gears and it is normal but it does still worry me

I've got the TRE

No tapping

The search everyone was referring to leads to a lengthy discussion of a few months back where the question was asked and solved.
