C109 higher mileage info

Just had my 08 in for her 50,000km major service and thought I'd share some details for anyone who's wondering how long some items last.


  • At 50,000 km I had them check the valves and found out you do NOT do this unless you absolutely have to. It's a 5.5 hr job (rate here was $110/hr) and the valves were all within spec. The mechanic said that typically he won't do valves unless a customer says they're having trouble starting or running rough.

  • Air filter - will last another season (30,000km)

  • Brakes - currently 40% + - replace toward end of this season


I was quite impressed with the news about the valves, brakes and air filter lasting as long as they have.

Although, at current miles, I just put on 4th set of tires.

**I ride 2 up almost all the time and don't ride the hell out of the bike. It's used primarily for touring and most of the miles are highway miles.**

I did my valves myself this February. It is quite and extensive job. Even worse if you need to adjust them.Luckily mine were all within specs too. I've got 25000 miles on mine or about40,000km.
I am still darkside with my rear tire.:bluethum:
 
I'm at 40,000 now as well. I had to switch back to conventional oil cause my clutch plates started to slip when taking off. Has anyone else had this issue yet on their c109?
 
Us M109'ers complain about it a ton. Most of us feel it is due to not enough oil reaching the plates...To avoid this I make sure to lean the bike to the right at the first start-up each day to ensure oil gets to the plates.
 
I have a brand new 09 109 rt left over. I've had it four weeks. In that time i've had it blowing oil out of the air filter,,,,all most turned into the gost rider three times becuase of it blowing gas out of the filler cap and i'm getting ready to get a harley magnet to pick up the parts as they fall off,,,,,,has anyone had any of these problems???????
 
If you don't overfill the crankcase, you don't get excess oil in the air box.

If you don't overfill the gas tank, you don't get gas spewing out.

Why do I get the feeling that this whole post is BS ??? :roll:
