C&C - The Simpsons - "TreeHouse of Horror XVIII" (Nov 4,2007)

I thought this was actually a pretty good TOH Special. Defintley up from the last one anyway. And now to go over more the specifics.

Opening: Probably would of been funnier if we didn't hear about Marge killing off those annoying Fox ads months ago but still worth at least a chuckle, espically the way she bakes them all into the bread. Didn't see the Family Guy one though. Heh be kind of funny if Simpsons could of updated this quickly and have the FG one be Quagmire saying "remember me baby?" before she sucked him up or something.

"E.T Go Home" - Okay yeah it's kind of too late for another ET parody to be considered relevant at all but this one was pretty good. Mainly for being an actual sort of focus on Kodos (with Kang only making a minor cameo) and his talk of peace and actually meaning war. I also liked Bart and Lisa discovering him, him trying to give Bart and Lisa busy work, Homer and Kodos in the shower (though ruined by FOX promoting that scene), Homer's lame distraction for the officers, Kodos just blasting the police, the various Rigerian aliens attacking, Homer shooting Kodos and the end with Kodos's "dissection".

"Mr. And Mrs. Simpson" - I pretty much dislike any attempt at a Marge and Homer plotline this series tries to offer, and the fact it was a Mr. and Mrs. Smith parody ( a couple of years to late to start knocking that movie) made me dislike the idea more. But this was alright. Mainly because it actually offered something different then just "homer doing somethign stupid and Marge yelling at him the entire time" with them both going at each other. And there were some good moments in this one: Homer thinking up the good killing line in his head and not saying it, Homer using Marge's excuse when going home, the actual fight they had (one of the few times they could actually get away with Homer hitting Marge in some form though I expected/wanted more) and them getting it on/having to explain it to the kids, and the end with the two of them killing Skinner whom they accidentley told the whole story too.

"Heck House" - Probably the weakest in terms of overall laughs actually. I mean there were some but I didn't chuckle as much as the others. It's defintley the most halloweeny though and using an interesting theme (The kids pranking the town and Flanders getting back at them with a hell infused horror house) done fairly well. I liked the prank montage, Flanders lame haunted house, Lisa pointing out that she's getting punished even though she objected to the house (she still deserved punishment IMHO for never getting any for the most part), Homer being Sloth and Greed in the seven deadly sins, the various Springfieldian residents as hellish creatures and Flanders ending the special. Simialr to what they did two years ago with Moe and Dennis Rodman but worked for me more.

I actually really like XI. The Ghost Dad segment was hilarious. The other two were ok too. The dolphin one wasn't great but it wasn't horrible.

Count me in as another who really loved Treehouse of Horror XI,if only for the "Ghost Dad" story...this scene with Homer and Marge always makes me laugh...

Homer: Marge, you gotta help me! I have to do one good deed to get into Heaven.

Marge: Well,I've got a whole list of chores: Clean the garage,Paint the house....

Homer: Whoa!,whoa!,whoa!....I'm just trying to get in!!..I'm not running for Jesus!!!

Actually, I really liked 'Ghost Dad', it was how it went downhill after that that bothered me. There was so much about the last segment that irked me (again, it got worse as it went) that I couldn't believe how ridiculous it was by the ending.

And this is from someone who loved 'Saddlesore Gallactica'.
