C&C - The Simpsons - "TreeHouse of Horror XVIII" (Nov 4,2007)

That was great until we revisited psychotic uber-conservative Ned Flanders.

Anything with uber-conservative Ned Flanders is not worth watching.

How in the blue hell did a Mr. and Mrs. Smith parody count as a Halloween story?!

Can someone please explain this before my head explodes?

Actually, I kinda liked that one. The Ghost Dad segment was kinda weak, but I think the Dolphin one was pretty funny.

I can't even remember the middle segment of the one I mentioned. And I saw it a few days ago.

I don't even mind that, really...but the pacing of this episode was just so off. Like it felt very rushed and to be honest, it was painfully unfunny. Actually, I found Mr. and Mrs. Simpson to be the best segment, and I know a lot of people were griping that it wasn't "Halloween"-y...
I'm not the harshest critic of the "new" Simpsons, but bleck, I did not enjoy this one at all.

First part: I really thought this was the strongest part of the episode. Lots of laughs and silly gags and some good character interactions. B+

Second part: This really didn't fit at all. Didn't feel Halloweenish and American Dad did this way better in their previous season. It was funny, don't get me wrong (although why Marge stabbed her hit IN THE MIDDLE OF A CROWD was beyond me) but it didn't fit the theme. B-

Third Part: Funny but it felt rushed and the ending was terrible. Ned's funny like this, but he gained the powers really fast and it didn't really have any good transition. Kinda felt a bit rushed. C

I didn't really like the episode....it just wasn't that funny...though I did like the opening with Marge killing all the promos, and the second story was mildly amusing, even though it had nothing to do with Halloween ....
Something else I noticed in the ET parody was that they kept referring to Kodos as "he"....in one of the earlier TOH episodes, when Kang introduces himself and Kodos to Homer,he says "My name is Kang, this is my sister Kodos"...

I thought it was okay. Each segment got laughs out of me here and there. I wasn't too bothered by the non-sci fi or horror themed second story. I probably laughed the most at that, when Homer and Marge where tearing up the house. I also liked Homer completely tuning Marge out in the middle of their fight.

The third one had a weak ending, but I thought it was kind of cool the way they showed Hell and the Seven Deadly Sins (although I think I only counted 6).

That and those trilogies they seem to be doing more and more of lately. I like some of the trilogies, but they've been taking away my excitement for the Halloween specials.

I thought that was the best segment. I couldn't stop laughing. I love the part where they shot Wiggum and he says "I would have taken a bribe."

I don't know why so many people thought this special was bad. I thought it was the best episode of The Simpsons that I've seen in a while.

Admittedly I can't quite remember the last few Halloween specials, so I have no basis for comparison outside the early classics. That said:

ET Go Home - boring. It's not quite a halloween special without Kang and Kodos, but their 'fool springfield' plans get more and more annoying with every appearance.

Mr. and Mrs. Simpson - despite having nothing to do with Halloween, this was a fun one. They should've saved this for some movie parody sketch episode, but whatever.

Heck House - came the closest to feeling ghoulish and Halloween worthy.

Best part of this year by far was the opening skit with the ads and Marge's special loaf.

Apparently, the "Heck House" segment was suppose to end with a revalation that Ned got his powers from Satan rather than God among other things and was even animated, but was ultimately decided to end instead with Ned denouncing FOX networks. Suffice to say, it couldn't possibly be any worse than what we got.

So, in other words, the Simpsons crew decided to cut what would be an interesting ending in favor of a very lame one that bashes FOX? Makes you wonder if the staff is intentionally making the series worse and worse each season.

I kinda saw that coming, but it would be better than another NewsCorp bash.

I think they just don't care anymore. So they churn out stuff like this because they know people will still watch it.
