no new episode till 11/4 THOH

So Marge starts a friendship with a convict? Hmm, haven't we seen that before?

You know, even though I'm aware that Halloween isn't for another 2 1/2 weeks, why not air the THOH episode tonight as opposed to after Halloween?

Exactly. I hate waiting for the Halloween special until the middle of november because of the Turd series. Why did fox have ot get the rights to that?

The thing I'm liking more about this season than the previous is that all of this season's episodes seem to focus on the idea of having a main plot without a minor plot.

Solid episode, or at least it was better than last weeks.

So Gil is dead now or what?

And I loved the "look me in the eyes" thing. "I can't, they're too buggy!" Buscemi always is a good sport about that.

Positives-

Steve Buschemi
Subtle reference to Fargo, in which Buschemi played a similar role with the other bank robber
Hillarious Itchy and Scratchy cartoon
Krusty's reference to deadly Chinese toys
only one story to focus on plot. no unfunny Homer getting another job subplot like the last 3 episodes.

Negatives-
Really bad Chalkboard joke
Lazy musical montage in act 3
Negotiator DVD joke rambling and unfunny
We get the joke that Wiggum is incompetant, but the robby shooty joke was too far and unfunny

I wasn't paying attention- what was the gag again?
BTW, I happen to have the Negotiator DVD right here, and these are the chapters:
1) Credits
2) Negotiating w/Omar
3) Countdown
4) On the news again
5) Missing money
6) Rendezvous w/Nate
7) Surprise discovery
8) Lost star
9) Facing accusers
10) Not going to jail
11) Forces in place
12) No eyes, no ears
13) Man Danny wants
14) Never say no
15) Not helping
16) Rules/engagement
17) How do you know?
18) Courting period
19) Chris in the game
20) Trust a stranger
21) On the trigger
22) Full command
23) Want my blood?!?
24) Phone tag
25) Not what they seem
26) Niebuam's files
27) Getting inside
28) Someone w/access
29) Calling his bluff
30) Under fire
31) I wonder why
32) A way out?
33) To their rescue
34) Offsite
35) Standoff/Niebaum's
36) Negotiating a deal
37) Right to be silent
38) Nice talking to you
39) Found star

I don't recall off the top of my head what the chapters were in the episode, but I don't think they matched.
The "robby shooty" line wasn't that great, but I LOVED Wiggum's clueless expression when Lou says the code for a bank hold-up. And Eddie's and Lou's reactions were priceless- timed just right. Between that gag and Bart hitting the back of the truck last week and laying on the ground for a few seconds, I'm glad to see the directors putting some of the deliberate comic timing back into the show, even if it's only in small doses at a time.

Good episode. The plot dragged in some places though.

I liked the twist of Homer actually being there for Lisa and Marge being the one to miss the ceremony, even if Marge did have a damn good reason why she wasn't there.

I also liked the callback to last episode where Homer apologized in advance for missing the father/daughter dance.

Is this the end of Gil???

I guess we'll have to figure that out ourselves.

Another good episode, it was really enjoyable and I loved Marge's line "I can't look into your eyes, they're too buggy!" and I somehow knew they were going to do a Shawshank Redemption joke.

And did anyone else notice that Dwight's convict uniform was the same number as the episode production code?

This was the most tolerable one of the season so far; the pacing wasn't all over the place, and many of the jokes weren't painful. Not all were funny, but none were painful. Which feels nice.

Wow, it almost seems like the Simpsons are on the upswing or something...

Personally I didn't think it was too much better than other recent stuff, but everybody else seems to. I did like the buggy eyes part a lot, and having a decent, sensible plotline really helped. I really loved the Dilbert bit. The main thing I didn't like was the stuff with Chief Wiggum. It seemed like they were deliberately trying to emulate Family Guy's worst moments or something.

Marge seems to be making a lot of dangerous friends this season. Still, the episode was really good, I laughed a few times, the plot was entertaining, and Marge really displayed some great nervous tendencies. While there really wasn't too much of an emotional heart between Marge and Homer when the episode started out, at least the writers didn't get mean with him when the two reunited.

B+

I am not an FDIC insured bank.

Sounds like they were running out of ideas and heard a bank advert on the radio.

Couch gag was only good because Krusty mentioned Chinese toys later.

Yeah, I got the Dog Day refference to. I thought it was funny, since it was also similar to Buschemi's role as a reluctant car jacker in Fargo.

But on to the Montage in act three. This is the one thing that bugs me in current Simpsons episodes. It seems to fill time they put in a lazy musical montage with random pop mood music. Then we see 2 minutes of throwaway gags that aren't funny at all. We've had these before in pre-season 10 episodes, but they were well put together, and seemed like they were intergrated into the plot, instead of being tacked on. I really think they could have done similar gags with dialogue and no pop song du jour in this episode.
