C & C The Simpsons " Dial 'N' for Nerder " ( 3/9/08)

Boy, I thought Martin Prince was killed off, but he survived and lives!

Is "Sneakers" a spoof of reality show "Cheaters"?

I thought when Homer went on a Bell Pepper diet, he would spit out fire.

The 1970's NBC Mystery Movie opening spoof at the end were a surprise!

I've grown exceedingly tired of montages, but if they can use real music they composed, it softens the blow.

That said, a half decent episode. I felt the Homer diet subplot (while it did have some good jokes) fell flat. At least they didn't get onto the soap box of "Look at how fat Americans are, they eat to much." yet again. I will say I loved the satire of the nutricionist. They really do talk like that. Watch one on TV, and they'll always say something to the likes of "Instead of eating something you crave, eat something you'd never eat in a million years." Him making out with a spit of lamb was pretty funny too, though we could have gone without that as a montage (the chewing noises sounding dirty would have been much funnier). And I cracked up, I admit, at the eaten lamb spit having it's own house, and Homer calling it.

But the real prize was the Bart and Lisa main story. I haven't seen Lisa this enjoyable for years. Sideshow Mel made a silent appearence (As you all know by now, I hate him coming in and saying one line, just because he has a funny accent). And we actually look into a minor character of the show being a plot device. I especially loved how out of character Nelson acted in trying to catch Bart and Lisa. But the true best of the episode was Bart's guilt, and Lisa's willingness to cover it up.

And I had a feeling Martin was going to be alright somehow at the end.

Nelson's Columbo act was great! It was strangely fitting. And the part where the three stooges were punching him and he didn't react was great.

You know instead of making him into a scum in the 'look into the future' episodes, they should make him first into a 'cowboy cop' and then into an unconventional detective. It'd be cool if you ask me.

some of the scenes shown in the memorial montage were VERY old oO

Oh and I hate bell peppers too! They're so bland >

Eh, not as crazy for it as you all. The Happy Little Elves return was nice and all, but I still didn't laugh hard enough. Should of known that Lisa wouldn't be in on the prank.

Anyone care to explain to me why Nelson would care to snoop about Martin's murder?

To paraphrase a lyric from another detective show theme song, they used to be friends a long time ago. Probably still are, considering Nelson knew a lot about Martin.

Still, that was almost classic Simpsons last night.

It was either out of necessity or it was cleverly decided to be that way. Normally Bart & Lisa do all the detective/investigative work in Springfield, but in a clever twist, they're on the opposite side this time. Nelson was probably the most obvious choice for the writers as he has a deep enough character to be able to pull off the role (I couldn't see Milhouse or [ugh] Database doing it).
