When the family gets fed up with Roger's antics, Francine kidnaps Roger. But will anyone care?

One of the best episodes of the series. Loved how the ending came about.

Best part was Roger throwing up in the rain gutter, falling to the ground and then receiving his vomit from the drain spout.
 
I agree, this episode was really good. It almost seemed like it was going to lose steam mid-way through, when Francine discovered that Stan was just using the change jar as a paperweight, but they managed to do an interesting twist by having Roger temporarily go "nice".

How many episodes are left in this season, anyway? It doesn't seem to be too effected by the writers' strike.
 
The whole "Roger being nice" part was great, peaking with his encounter with the gutters. The jokes were pretty much spot-on and the sub-plot with Haley and Klaus had some good laughs. Not so sure about Steve being a back-up dancer; his gig at the top of the chimney was god for a snicker, but that's about it. Let's hope the hits keep coming.

As for the writer's strike, animation shows are written months in advance of the airdate (unlike say, talk shows) so the effects aren't seen as quickly.
 
Stan showcased he was pretty intelligent and clever this time around, and even gave Roger his comeuppance. Kind of reminded me of those old cartoons where someone is a jerk and one of the other ones beat them up offscreen.
 
This would have been better if the Roger-as-child allegories weren't played to death. The second time he threw a tantrum it quit being funny.
 
I used to have a friend( ex-friend since '05) who acted EXACTLY the same way. Oh btw- he was a year older than me....and I'm gonna be 26 in March. DEAD serious.

Regardless, I REALLY enjoyed this episode. This series is proving to be one of those that might likely hit my "All-Time Favorite Shows" list.

Just keep the hits coming, and it's on there. I also liked Roger putting Steve in his place about the breakdancing. I love breakdancing...I don't want Steve ruining it by screwing it up.
 
Not the funniest episode, but I did enjoy it. The main part that surprised me was when Stan found out halfway through that Francine was making the calls. I thought I knew where the plot was headed, but I was wrong.
 
Indeed. That was the best part of the episode for me. Just the fact that Stan wasn't the antagonist, learning that his hard core conservative values keep him stubborn to new possibilities. You know, like in most of the other episodes. In fact, he teaches Francine a lesson this time. Really, a nice role reversal. Not the funniest of the episodes, but a nice structure to it. So overall a very good episode.

I did like the random subplot about Hayley and Klaus daring each other with stupid dares, till at the end, hayley was the Captain from the Love Boat, and Klaus was in Jello. And Steve was more of a running gag than a subplot, at least to me.

And loved Patton Oswalt's extremely breif cameo as the ticket seller.
 
I loved how Stan knew about the kidnapping all along. Totally didn't see that twist coming! :D And I really got a kick out of the Hayley/Klaus subplot even though it didn't really go anywhere.

American Dad has really surpassed Family Guy in quality, in my opinion. Family Guy is hit and miss but, so far, American Dad has consistently clever and funny.
 
Stan was pretty good throughout the episode, especially since Francine's caller ID gave her away and he was just trying to teach them a lesson (I liked him racing to that movie). I even felt a little bad for Roger, although the throwing up into the rain gutters was funny. The episode had a great ending, too.
 
Love the fake-out gag with Stan getting out of the car, hoping he's not too late, and he's actually going to a movie (IIRC) called "Not Too Late". :D

I also loved Roger gradually regaining his strength by insulting Steve's breakdancing (BTW, Steve's grunts while breakdancing were hilarious).

The episode took a bit to get going but the third act had the most laughs. And I wonder if we'll get uncensored Hayley for the DVDs. :evil:
 
You know I always enjoy AD plots that just don't try and force a lesson down Stan's throat that chances are he'll forget about next week. Okay yeah there's still a lesson but at least he's not the one specifically learning it and actually did have some nice moments of insight in this ep (knowing Francinne was the one calling and spelling out what she had to do to get through to Roger. As well as the ending of the ep but more on that later). I guess this was more a Francinne/Roger character piece though as Francinne tries getting over being an enabler but realizes that's just who she is. As we also see that Roger can't really be specifically nice without being bitterspirited or whiny otherwise he'd die. (Which seems like somewhat a continuity glitch but even in instances he was nice before it was always because of his own expense in some form or another. Not so here). So that was kind of an interesting way to play the ep with things resetting but sort of at least learning something from it. I also like how they tied Steve's lame aspirations to try and be a back up dancer (liked his line about not wanting to detract from anyone else's dancing, being on the roof and Roger's critques of him at the end) as well as Klaus and Hayley's dare contest (between fish kisses, panty stealing, running around naked, Love Boat Captain dressup and jello bowl I'd really like to see more of that plot truthfully but at least they did good use of what was there). Good stuff from the main plot including the flashbacks of Francinne being an enabler, Roger's whiny complaints (mainly him saying the two taco places were differently then saying Francinne was too much a stay at home mom for them to have much money for the bounty) Stan going to the movie and later calling out Francinne on her lie, "I'll even give up drinking!" "This isn't about that". "Oh thank god" and Roger getting his at the end. (Yeah kind of predictable but since it dosen't happen in every ep and he did deserve it here acceptable). Overall a real solid American Dad ep actually. Not LOL worthy fully but defintley one of the better eps of the show. Maybe this is also an example of how doing stuff not just directly Stan is wrong related is a good thing.
